Social media is changing how we shoot video. Yes, we are talking about video again. Even big Hollywood productions are framing shots with social media in mind because that’s where many of us see movie trailers.
Traditionally, video is shot using a widescreen 16:9 aspect ratio, but most people view videos on their phone using a portrait or 9:16 ratio. Yes, for some videos, you can turn your phone and the screen rotates so the picture fills your screen, but some features don’t allow that.
What should you do to make your followers happy?
Landscape, 16:9, widescreen videos should be posted to your Facebook feed and YouTube.
Portrait, 9:16 videos should be posted to Instagram stories and reels as well as TikTok.
Square, 1:1 videos should be posted to Instagram and Facebook feeds.
